Resorts World Casino in New York City seems to be on track to complete its expansion in Queens sooner rather than later. Gilston Electric, a subsidiary of Electra USA, has demonstrated its support for the new establishment by efficiently completing the electrical work ahead of schedule.
Gilston’s planning has been instrumental in the company’s progress since being awarded the electrical subcontract in 2018. The expansion project encompasses a 10-story, 400-room hotel, a 50,000-square-foot casino, and a 40,000-square-foot amenities area.
Gilston experienced increased ease throughout the project by leveraging its engineers to establish the foundation. The proactive approach of field supervisors and electricians provided a head start, leading to enhanced overall efficiency for the team.
The ongoing expansion of 479,000 square feet suggests that New Yorkers might soon have the opportunity to explore a thrilling new casino in downstate NY. It is highly probable that Resorts World Casino will be granted one of the three licenses to run a complete casino in the Empire State very soon.
Resorts World Casino NYC showcases expansion
Currently, Resorts World NYC operates as a video lottery terminal (VLT) serving the Queens community. Nevertheless, in the near future, it has the potential to become one of the limited retail casino venues in the state.
During a previous interview with playin-ny, Darlene Monzo, the CMO of Resorts, shared their aspirations for expansion. She stated:
For the past decade, our vision has revolved around establishing a casino in NYC. Genting’s intention was never to simply have a place with slot machines in New York; our goal was always to create one of the largest slot floors in the country, boasting 6,500 slots on our property in Queens. Additionally, we aimed to develop a full-service casino in the Catskills. Nevertheless, our dream and vision have always been centered around having a presence in New York City, and we have received tremendous support from the Queens community.
With construction steadily advancing, the land-based establishment is poised to make significant progress this summer. Gilston’s well-executed plan has ensured that the casino is coming together smoothly, with minimal hurdles.
The electrical team at Gilston Electric made significant progress by swiftly moving on to subsequent stages instead of waiting for other trades to complete their specific tasks. John Keane, the Senior VP of Gilston Electric, highlighted these benefits.
Starting a project of this magnitude early on yields enormous benefits. Our efficiency improved, manpower was reduced, material costs decreased, and project time was shortened. These positive outcomes were a direct result of our thorough preparations. Overall, it was a win-win situation for both Gilston and the general contractor, Plaza Construction.
According to Keane, Gilston’s performance was outstanding, as they achieved an impressive 99% accuracy in hitting all the walls and equipment within the building. Additionally, they efficiently and completed the installation of tens of thousands of feet of raceways ahead of schedule.
Efficient construction for future downstate NY casino
Resorts managed to avoid shutting down its operations by implementing a phased development approach, which allowed for the expansion to take place while the casino remained open for business.
Gilston remained steadfast in his strategy, even when faced with challenges throughout various stages.
Danny Fiorello, the general foreman for the building expansion at Resorts NYC, discussed the productivity of his team.
“We consistently maintained a leading position among the other trades, ensuring a reduced presence of onsite workers. Remarkably, even when one of the major trades unexpectedly failed midway through the project, its impact on us was minimal as we had already fulfilled our responsibilities beforehand.”
Even though Gilston had never collaborated with Plaza Construction in the past, this expansion played a significant role in strengthening their future partnership.
During this time, Alan Sparn, Plaza’s Executive Vice President, expressed his appreciation for Gilston’s role as a “genuine partner.” Sparn eagerly anticipates collaborating with Gilston on forthcoming projects.
Naturally, Gilston was delighted with the outcomes achieved through the establishment of an extensive electrical infrastructure. Fiorello elucidated:
Throughout all stages, from the bidding process to materials purchasing, engineering work, and onsite execution, the project exemplified our unity as a team.
Queens can anticipate a significant increase in tax revenue as Resorts World NYC secures its complete casino license.
